RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

-♦ Monday, September 15. (Before J. O. Crawford, Esq., R.M.) DRUNKS. Frank Kelly, who had been drunk on the Sunday evening and using obscene language to the people passing along the beach, was sentenced to forty-eight hours' imprisonment, i/i default of payment of a 20s fine. John Nelson, a comrade of the previous man, both having belonged to the William Tapscott, was dealt with similarly. Joseph Webb, and Michael Taylor, who had been brought in from the Hutt, were only fined 5s each. STRAYING HORSES. Joseph Saunders was charged with three separate offences against the Municipal Corporations Act, by allowing horses to wander. He was fined Is, and 6s 6d costs in two cases, and 2s on the third, with 6s 6d costs. John Futter, for a like offence, was fined ss, and ordered to pay 9s costs. I A DISTURBANCE IN CHURCH. William Overtoil, who was charged with creating a disturbance in .St. Peter's Church, To Aro, was dismissed with a caution. : ASSAULT. This was a oross-act'ion for assault. In ■ the first place Rudolph Laurent charged i Thomas Redding with assault ; in the second the tables were turned. Mr Buckley appeared for Redding in both cases. Several witnesses were examined. His Worship dismissed the case against Redding, and ordered Laurent to be bound over to keep the peace for three months in the sum of £10.
