[VIA JAVA CABLE.] Hokitika, Friday. The Claud Hamilton arrived this morning from Melbourne. She left on the 9th, and was tendered at 6.30 this evening. The Claud brings qleven saloon and ten steerage passengers. Passenger for Wellington — Major Mair. London, August 7. Parliament was prorogued on the sth by commission. The Queen thanked members of both Houses for making prompt provision for the Duke of Edinburgh, and trusted that the approaching marriage with the Grand Duchess would prove a new tie to assist in promoting a good understanding between the two countries. The revenue is fully answering all expectations, although trade is slack. The general condition of the people continues to exhibit evidences of improvement. The Bishop of Winchester was killed by a fall from his horse. The Bishop of Ely succeeds. Seventy Danish' emigrants for New Zealand are now in hospital ship upon the Thames, at Gravesend. Four cases of cholera are amongst them, and there have been two deaths. Featherston is attending to them. They are kept strictly isolated. By a railway accident at Wigan, fourteen were killed. The English, French, and German fleets will prevent excesses of the Spanish insurgent ships. Perks has been elected President of the Wesleyan Conference. A minority of eighteen opposed the allowance to the Duke of Edinburgh. Flageolet won the Goodwood Cup, Favonius second, Cremorne third. Baxter, secretary of the Treasury, has resigned. Other resignations are expected. , Dr Woodford, Vicar of Leeds, has been nominated to the Bishopric of Ely. Dr Kinealey, in defending Tichborne, described Sir Roger as a person of depressed and habitual imbecile mind, "which explained the absurdity of many of the claimant's statements, Vhile his conduct throughout was inconsistent with his being an imposter.
