The ketch Falcon arrived at three o'clock yesterday afternoon from the Wairau. She crossed the Wairau bar at nine yesterday morning, and arrived after a passage of six houre. The distance, we believe, is 45 miles, and the speedy passage speaks well for the sailing capabilities of (his fine little vessel, The steamer Ladybird will be the next vowel to be placed on the patent slip, which will take place either to-day or to-morrow. Some slight alterations will requiie to be made before the new propeller can be shipped. Referring to the circumstance recently re* ported that Captain Effered, of the snip Childors, passed during the voyage from London to Melbourne a quantity of floating wreck when about 160 miles from the Orozet Islands, a correspondent of tho "Sydney Morning Herald" writes : — " Tho Crozefc Islands are a little to the southward of the usual track of ships bound from Europe to these colonies, but with the continuance of thick weather might easily become the scene of some disastrous shipwreck. The Princess of Wales, so Horsburg states, was wrecked here in' March, 1821, and the crew remained on the island until January, 1823, when they were rescued by the sealing schooner Philo. Now I think it quite possible that some of our missing ships might have have been lost either on Orozets, Prince Edward, or on Kerguelan's Islands during the last two or three year?, and that the passengers and crews might be living there still — sealers' and whalers' visits to those- bleak places are now things of the past."
