Mr John Reid quotes oats dull at 5s ; flour, £13 10s to £14 ; potatoes, £5. Mr George Binney quotes the wheat market dull ; stocks very heavy. Oamaru flour, £15; Dunedin flour, £14 to £14 10a ; bran, 6s scl ; pollard, 6s lOd ; wheat, 6s to 6s 6cl ; malt, 10s 6d ; cheese, 9d to 9£d ; hams and bacon, 9£d ; oatmeal, £25 to £26 ; pearl barley, £30 to £31 ; bulk timber, 8s ; sawn kauri, 9s 6d to 16s 6d, f.o.b. The Mary Webster is loading timber at Kaipara for Wellington. It is generally believed that there will be a struggle for the Superintendency between Messrs Dargarville and Williamson. The ship Hilton Castle has cleared for London. Alexandra, Friday. I The natives at Te Kuiti have sent in a large number of cattle. The natives are preparing for the great meeting on the 18th. Napier, Friday. At a meeting of merchants held here to-day a resolution was passed approving of the ad valorem duties in principle, but objecting to the scale as being excessive. Wanganui, Friday. A well-attended meeting of merchants and storekeepers was held this afternoon, when a resolution was unanimously passed condemning the proposed alteration in the tariff, on the ground that the rates are greatly in excess of the rates levied under the former system. • The public and the Press are unanimous here in condemning the new percentage on necessaries. Christchurch, Saturday. Messrs Royse, Stead and Co quote flour steady at £11 10s, in 2001 b bags ; wheat scarce, but demand light, ss, f.0.b. ; oats quiet, holders asking 4s 9d to 4s lOd for prime on board ; butter, Is ; cheese, B|d. Westport, Saturday. The brigantine Aborigine sailed out of the Buller this morning with a Light wind, bound for Hokitika for timber, thence bound to Melbourne. There was 16 feet of water on the bar. Dunedin, Saturday. Flour, in sacks, £12 10s : in bags, £13 ; oatmeal, £24 ; wheat, £5s 3d to 5s 6d ; oats duller, 4s 3d to 4s 4cl ; pollard, 5s ; bran, 13s 6d (?) Port Chalmers, Friday. The Albion arrived at 3.4 p.m., and will sail North to-morrow afternoon.
