She brings the Auckland portion of the Suez mail, but no later British or Australian news than the Claud Hamilton. A dwelling house belonging to W. Mark Foster, at Remuera was burned to the ground yesterday, also an adjoining stable. It is supposed to be the work of an incendiary. The house was insxired in the Royal for £350, the stables for £50, the furniture in the Victoria for £125. J. M. Dargaville is a rumored candidate for the Superintendency. A requisition to him is being got up. Nothing important from the Waikato. Mackay and Pollen are in town. Lyttelton, Monday. The ship Himalaya sailed yesterday for London. Dunedin, Monday. Robert Moore, charged with personation at the Peninsula election, was brought up before the Mayor on Saturday and discharged, as no one appeared to prosecute. A company has purchased the " Morning Star," and intend issuing a first-class daily to be called the "Globe" It has an influential directory. Mr Pyke is to be editor. Heart of Oak and Star of the East companies at Cromwell have reduced miners wages from 77s and 72s to 65s per week of 48 hours. All hands, about twenty,* consequently struck. The Elizabeth Company also intend reducing.
