BALL TO THE GOVERNOR.
to thb editor or the jorfiitf^pjnnv .1 Sir,— At a publio meeting Jb^dofti the> Athenaeum on the 6th inst., n^Wonshipv the Mayor in the chair, it was^oVed by his Honor the Superintendent and carried unanimously, " That a ]p«blic ball should be given to Sir James and Lady Fergusson, on an evening to be fixed by them after their arrival." A large cont*mittee was appointed to carry this resolution into effect, but as yet they have made no sign. Whose duty is it to see to this matter? In my opinion the responsir. bility rests upon the chairman- oL:themeeting to see that effect is given tdi-reso- . lutions passed by it. The public^J^^^| patiently waiting and anxious to do fiondH^ to the occasion, and will therefore be gH»^ to hear that the invitation has bean given' and accepted, and that the event is 8oonx;~; to come off. — I am. &c, ' - : One of thh People.
