Before the declaration of the poll Thompson protested against the legality of the election, and said he had been informed that a deputyReturning Officer had erased a name or names of a candidate or candidates from the ballot papers. He (Thompson) threatens to take action in the matter. For the Oamaru country district, Webster polled 68 ; Waddel, 41 ; and Aitche.son, 16. At/ Tuapeka, Bastings polled 370 ; Brown, 308 ; Pyke, 143. The Waipori returns are not in, but they cannot alter the result. Lyttelton, Tuesday. Arrived — Langstone, ship, from London, with passengers all well, 95 day out. The Himalaya, ship, clears to-morrow for London with full cargo. The Yelocidade, barque, and Joliba, barque, clear to-morrow for Auckland with produce. Sailed— Lady Don, for Hokitika ; and Elizabeth Curie, for Waikato. Invercargill, Tuesday. The nomination for Waihopai to the Otago Council took place yesterday. Wood and Peekin were proposed. The show of hands was in favor of Wood. The Invercargill nomination took place to-day. Lumsden and Tapper being proposed. The show of hands was in favor of Lumsden. The Supreme Court was opened before Mr Justice Chapman yesterday. Thomas Allan pleaded guilty to stabbing a policeman — two years hard labor. Peter Summers, for larceny, was found not guilty, and discharged. James Tardley. charged with robbery with violence, pleaded not guilty of robbery, but pleaded guilty on the charge of assault, sentened to one month's imprisonment. James Dawkins, George Davis, William Metcalf, William Fiaher, Thomas Lane, John Coll, charged with robbery with • violence, pleaded guilty of assault. The robbery charge was withdrawn. The first two as the ringleaders, received six, and the others four months' imprisonment. James M'Laren, charged with stabbing with intent, was found not guilty and dismissed.
