FIRE AT WANGANUI.

THE MAYOR OF WANGANUI ASKED TO RESIGN. OTAGO ELECTIONS. (NEW ZEALAND PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Wanganui, Monday. The stables of Handley's Hotel, at Nukumaru, were totally destroyed by fire on Saturday night. The stores and building were valued at £400. The horses were turned out and saved. Tho fire was caused by a groom, leaving a lighted candle in a stall. The Mayor is called upon to resign the mayorship in consequence of his refusing to resign his seat in the Provincial Executive. Dunedin, Monday. The poll at Naseby gives Oliver 125 ; De Lantan, 102 ; Armstrong, 52 ; Mervyn, 47. The results from the out districts are not yet in, but it is expected that the votes will be equally divided.
