Greytown, Wednesday,

At a meeting last night a vote of confidence in Beetham and Pharazyn was carried unanimously.

Pharazyn subsequently moved a resolution for financial separation of the district from Wellington. An amendment moved by Morton that financial separation was premature, was lost. There were 30 present. The movement is looked upon with indifference and even ridicule. Revans, Jackson, Moles, Andrew, and Pharazyn, were appointed a committee to frame the petition.

Auckland, Wednesday. A meeting was held lasfc night at Ooahuhu, and they passed resolutions urging the Government to extend the Auckland and Waikato railway to the boundary of the confiscated line.

The Premier's prize of £20 was competed for yesterday by Auckland and the Thames. The distances were 200, 500, and 600 yards, seven shots at each range, with no trial shot. The prize was won by Captain Hazard of the Thames, with a total score of 70 out of a possible 84.

A two storied building occupied as a store on the Hape Creek road was burned down early this morning. The fire brigade prevented the spread of the fire to the adjoining premises. The building was nofc insured.

Napier, Wednesday. Lieut.-Colonel Whitmore 's station at Rissington, containing 90,000 acrea, half

freehold, and running 21,500 sheep, has been sold to Miles & Co, of Canterbury, for £50,000.

Edenham station, the property of W. B. Rhodes and Chapman, with 11,000 sheep, was sold to J. Rhodes, late of Clive Grange.

At the Lyndon land sale yesterday a quarter acre building section on the hill sold at the rate of £450 per acre. The accounts regarding Sullivan's murder and the probability of war recently circulated were much exaggerated. The engineer's estimate for the reclamation of the town swamp is £5000.

Mr M'Gregor, C.E., contractor for Oamaru breakwater, is expected here per s.s. Wanganui, to report upon the proposed breakwater at Napier.

Mr Hardy, secretary of the Petroleum Company at Gisborne, arrived here today to make known the objects of the enterprise, and get shares taken up.

Lyttelton, Wednesday. Arrived — Noon, Taranaki. She sails North to-morrow afternoon.

A large number of vessels are here wind-bound waiting for a favorable wind.

The first sod of the Brunner railway was turned to-day by W. H. Harrison, M.H.R. There was agrand demonstration, the procession numbering about 3000, including all the schools, friendly societies, volunteers, firemen, and the general public.

Dunedin, Wednesday. Sailed — Lutterworth, for London, with a full cargo and five passengers. M'Dermid is returned for Port Chalmers unopposed, and Mr M'Lean for Oamaru, also unopposed.

At Tokomairiro Gillies was returned with a majority of fifteen.

The Provincial Council is summoned to meet on the thirtieth. It will be asked to vote supplies, and then adjourn till after the Assembly.

The first scrutiny of the Dunedin voting resulted in a tie between Turnbull and Davie, 907 each.
