RANGITIKEI.
(from a correspondent.) A preliminary meeting of the residents and settlers in the immediate vicinity of the township has been held, for the purpose of forming a company for the erection of a steam flour mill in the township. A fair number attended.
Mr Fitzherbert, who was voted to the chair, explained to the meeting the great necessity of haying a steam flour mill in a district like this, where, in summer, when the roads are in good condition for carting, there is not sufficient water to work the mills at present existing, and the benefit the wheat growers of the district would derive from such an object. Mr Schultze, who had canvassed the district, was called upon by the chairman to give in the probable returns of wheat to be grown this year in the district, which showed a very fair prospect for the proposed dEtteam flour mill at Rangitikei.
A committee was then proposed by the company present, consisting of Messrs C. Bull, J. Paulin, Schultze, Glasgow, and Gable.
A list was then opened, when 200 shares at £1 were readily taken up by the company present.
The list is to be left at Mr Schultze's store for signatures. The committee then arranged for another meeting in a fortnight's time for the furtherance of the above object, and to report progress.
