The best middling wheat is held for 4a 9d to 4s lOd, but neither buyers nor sellers are anxious to operate. Flour is unchanged iv price. Oat 3 are unaltered, but a better price is anticipated. Bailey is scarce, and 5s to 5s 3d is freely offered. Provisions are in active request. Butter, B^d ; Cheese, od ; haras and bacon 7d to 7^d. Mr J. E. Brown has obtained leave to introduce a bill into the Provincial Council making the Superintendent the chief Executive officer, to be governed by a majority of the Executive for the time being. Tima.ru, Friday. The weather hag been very rough. ** All the shipping got safely to sea yesterday afternoon. There was a snow storm this morning. Dunedin, Friday. The Queenstowu coach last night, when half-way between Cromwell and Clyde, ran over the bank of tho Molyneux river. The coach and horses got into deep water, but no Hies were lost. Five mail bags were lost in the stream. There have been some heavy snow storms up-country, and snow continues falling in Dunedin. There have been several coach accidents in the country districts, and in two cases the passengers were injured. Tho Provincial Government still firmly refuse to reinstate the police who refused duty. Flour is firm at £13. Ihero is good sale for wheat at 5s 3d ; malting barley is wanted at 5s 3d to 5s 6d ; oats are extremely quiet at Is lOd. Westport, Friday. Mace's crushing at Reefton gave 841 b avoirdupois of amalgum to 603 tons of stone. It is expected that 1075 ounces troy will be sent to Greymoulh. The sea here is steadily encroaching. Tho surf is washing away the ground at the rear of the few remaining houses on the west side of Gladstone «troet, and the occupants are removing. Mr O'Connor's action with respect to the lease of town lots is generally condemned, and his excuses not deemed satisfactory. Hokitika, Friday. Mr Barbor, the. late postmaster and receiver of revenue here, has been charged with embezzling two sums of money belonging to the County Government, and remanded until Wednesday next. The s.s. The rumor of the murder of the Roy Mr Gordon at Erromanga is confirmed. He was fetch od to visit the sick children ,of a native, and they found both dead. Lewis, the publisher of the Protestant Advocate, was charged with libelling Miss Wood, a sister of St. Joseph. He pleaded justification, but was sentenced to six months' imprisonment, and a fine of £50. Wheat, 5s lOd.
