Melbottene. — Tho "Argus" of the 16th reports :— Sugars meet with a good deal of fuvor, and business is pending which is likely to lead to the disposal of some heavy parcels. For ordinary purposes sales are mentioned at i 38s 6d for fine yellows to 40s for whitish counters. By auction, a small parcel of China sugar was quitted at £24 to £28. In timber considerable sales are reported. The public sales of wine and spirits this forenoon did not prove so successful as could be wished. Of the port wines offered only the balance of two shipments were quitted at £36 to £36 10a for low medium. Hennossy's brandy, in bulk, wa3 placed at 6s 2d, and in case at 25s 3d. Lemon Hart's 10 per cento.p. rum was quitted at 3s 2d, and Scotch whiskey at 3s lid to 5s sd. Tennont'e ale is moving off freely at 10s. At Messrs Hastings, Cunningham and Co's wool sale this afternoon, 2100 bales were catalogued, of which 1517 boles were cleared off under the hammer, besides 207 bales which were disposed of privately. There was a fair attendance of buyers. Tho demand for?coured and fleece was good, and prices were firm ; the lower qualities of greusy wore easier, however. Greasy realised from 8d to 13£ d, scoured from 16d to 24d, and fleece from 15d to 24d. Adelaide. — The correspondent of the Lyttelton " Times," writing on Deo 6, says : — The grain market having slowly crept down fco if s minimum of 4s 4d, has ns slowly recovered itself under the influence of European advices to 4s 7d, at which figure it has stood for several days past. During the last ten days [ some heavy parcels of both flour and wlieufc 1 have changed hands; aud a firm of brokers here, one of whose members was not long ago a Canterbury settler, sold in two days lnßt week 42,500 bushels of wheat and 530 tons of flour. The wheat was purchased for shipment to England at the market rate of 4s 7d, and tho flour, all of it first- class brands, at £11 ss>, to be held here for speculative purposes.
