PALMERSTON, NORTH.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE INDEPENDENT.
Sir, — Would you inform me if the law permits a publican in a country town to sell " ad libitum "on Sunday. The Sabbaths of Palmerston, I regret to say, if yesterday's scenes aro to bo enacted, are not fit for any civilised man to share in. The aaaniacal faculties of some, occasioned by this Sunday trading of nobblers, will be, if fostered, a means of seducing, wholesale, tho younger generation, and spreading one of tho worst of vices. I purposely omit to mention tho outrages upon men, horees, and dogs during the drunken revel of yesterday, but hope ere anotherSabbath arrives tho policeman the Government have promised will be porinanantly stationed here. — I am, &c, Pi3=ember 18. A New Resident.
