Punedin.— Tho " Times" of the 27th reporLs :— In the short interval since the doparturo of the mail, there has been but little going forward is the imporb market, and the end of the month being close at hand, there is an inclination for a day or two to quietness. In the moderate sales occurring, there are no changes to note, either in prices or prospects, nnd generally the markets are without anything calling for special notice Tho GHenhuntly, from Liverpool, has added considerably to the stocks of some descriptions of goods, and few items cau now be referred to ■which are not in good supply. Timaett.— The " Herald" of the 22nd inst. reports -.—There is no trade doing in gram, except for local requirements. Quotations arc as follows : Wheat (nominal), 4s 6d ; oats, 2s Gd ; Hour, £13 to £14 per ton ; pollard, £4 ; bran, £3 ; potatoes, £6. Tho trade in building materials has been rather slack. Quotations are as follows : Timber, N.Z., 15s to 16s per 100 f t. do, V.D L., 25s per 100 f t: V.D.L. palings (sft), 255; do (6ft), 30s; V.D.L. shingles, 30a per 1000 ; Gospel Oak galvanised iron, £35 por ton. There has been a good demand for coal, and there is a tolerably large stock on hand. Prices are (best screened), £2 las per ton ; inferior, £2 10s per ton. Firewood, £2 5s per cord. The principal shipments for tho month comprise 3,884 bushels outs, 310 barley, 378 wheat, 240 bales wool, 33 bales sheepskins, 15 hides, 157 sheep, 6 casks tallow, 7 kegs butter, and 21 tons (210 cases) preserved meat. Melbourne.— Tho " Argus" of tho 28th reports ;— Though fairly active, little of any special character has come before us in the import markets to-day. In breadetuffs, we note very iiltlo demand indeed for flou''. A very ordinary inquiry for trade puposcs continues to be reported at £12 15s to £13. An improved inquiry for wheat has been experienced, but we have no sale 3 to refer to, inasmuch as buyers do not feel inclined to givo tho price asked ; for best Adelaide, 5s lOd has been offered and refueed, as holders do not care to quote under 5s lid to 6a. A lino of 500 bags South Australian const wheat has changed hands at a concession on 5s lOd. The Dei-went, brig, jusfc arrived from Adolaide, brings a full cargo, but the entire shipment goes direct, into the hands of one of our millers. Oats are offering moro freely. Wo hear of a parcel of feeding, about 700 bags, having been placed at 3s 2d. Fine milling aro still quoted at 3s fid to 3s 7d. Maizo is scarcely so" firm, as arrivals aro for the moment coming forward more freely. Tho Macquarie has reached port to day, and others are known to be close at hand. Quotations, according to quantity, now rule at 33 lOd to 4a. The City of Melbourno, from Sydney, has brought forward the Californian mails and advices, but almost all tho commercial news has been anticipated by the telegrams published early in the week. Supplies of quicksilver have not come on by tho steamer, and a considerable advance on the article may in consequence bo looked to with some certainty. Wo observe the quotation in S,in Francisco is 85c per II) , equal to 3a Gd. Woolpacks have met with a bettor inquiry. About 40 bales have been quitted at 43, and the market being so barely supplied, an advance on this figure is now demanded. Sugars meet with purchasers to a fair extent. About 700 bags yellow browing to good white have been aold at £38 10s to £41 and £42. Teas command a good deal of favor. Low medium congous in chests havo been placed at Is 3d. Wo also learn that 2,200 packages of the Tranquebav's shipment have been cleared off at prices ranging from Is 2d to Is 6d for good common to medium congous. Tho Oscar Mooyer, with a cargo from Foo-ehow, is reported amongefc tho arrivals. £ales of candles, Brandon's, have been made at 10£ d. In tobaccos, we learn that 161 packages were quitted this forenoon. Tens brought lid to ll£d ; damaged sold at lO^cl ; twist, sound, realised Is 2d, and damaged Is 1-Jd. A shipment of Walker's G-ospel Oak galvanised iron was got rid of at very full prices.
Sydney.— Tho following telegram, from the " Argus," is dated Nov. 11:—Sales6 :— Sales of Mauritius sugars have been made up to £39 15s iiefc cash. Mort's wool sale to day was brisk ; greasy sold up to llfed, and fleece la 8HThe wheat harvest has commenced in the Hunter district. The crops promise to turn out well. Tasmania. — The following telegrams, from t n ie " Argus," are from Hobart Town and Launceston respectively, and aro dated Nov. 16 and Nov. 14- :— Tho weather is fine, and harvest prospects are excellent. Two days' seasonable rains have fallen, and the prospects of tho harvest are much improved. The crops wero previously suffering from drought.
