A CORRECTION.
TO THK EDITOR OF THE INDEPENDENT. Sic, — Will you kindly allow in© a few words in roforence to a " Sydney telegram" published in this morning's issue of your paper. The telegram mentions that " Bailey, a Roman Catholio priest," was sentenced to six months' imprisonment and a fine of £50 for illegally marrying a. minor. Now, sir, aa I am personally acquainted with the gentleman referred to, I beg to state that he is not a Catholic priest, but it, as ho prefers to designate himself, " Dr Bailey, Bishop of the Free Church of England." The examination and committal for trial of Dr Builey for the offence mentioned in the telegram was published in a Sydnoy paper I received about a fortnight ago, and which, I regret, has been destroyed 5 but on the arrival of the Alhambra I hope to be able (if necessary) to place you in possession of fuller particulars of the case. —I am, &c, Edward M'Donald.
