The Maori and Ahuriri sail for Wellington to-morrow' (Saturday) in the afternoon. Chkistchuch, Friday. It poured with ruin all day, and the races were a comparative failure. All the racing was bad, with the exception of the Cburistchurch Plate, The several events resulted a 9 follows : — CHRISTCHURCH PLATE. Mr Studholme's Knottingley ... 1 Mr H. Redwood's Peeress 2 RAILWAY PLATE. Mr Hunter's Defamation 1 METROPOLITAN HANDICAP. Mr Nosworthy's Envy 1 BELLIKG BACE. Escape ... 1 Expectation ..• 2 Sir Tatton 0 Sir Tatton won in a canter, but, on being weighed, was found to be 31b short. Consequently, Escape takes the stakes, Expectation taking second place. CONSOLATION STAKEB. Exile 1 Port Chalmers, Friday. Arrived, at 6.20 a m., Tararua, from the Bluff. Saiied— 4.3o p.m., Wellington, for Lyttelton ; Rangitoto, for the Bluff. A boat belonging to the James Nicol Fleming capsized in the harbor to-day, and John M'Farlane, a seaman, was drowned. The remainder of the crew were picked up by boats from the French barque Union, and by a waterman. Dunedin, Friday. Flour is quoted at £15. Transactions in wheat are light ; good samples are saleable at ss ; inferior not wanted. Oats, 2s 3d per bushel.
