Nelson— 6th, 12.30 p.m., Phoobe, from Picton. _________ Mr Boyer, of H.M.S. Clio, accompanied by Mr A. Burneil and two of his sisters, hired a half-decked boat lately, at Woolloomooloo, for a cruise down the harbor. When nearing the lightship, some disarrangement occurring to the peak halyards of the gaff, Mr Boyer left the tiller in charge of Mr Burneil, and passofl forward to arrange the gear, when a squall from the N.W. capsized tho boat, which immediately sank. Mr Royer, although encumbered with an overcoat, got hold of the ladies, and kept them afloat for some minutes ; but Miss E. Burneil, doubtless from exhaustion, let go her hold and was drowned. Messrs Smail and Goulden, residing at North Shore, who were off George's beach with a Government steam launch, observed the accident. They at once went off to the assistance of the persons who wore floating vi the water. They picked up Mr Royer, who in the meantime had been able to support tho sister. Mr A. Burneil, a reputed good swimmer, was also picked up by the launch in a nearly exhausted State." The steamer Phantom passed by shortly after tho recovery of the party from the water, and the three were transferred on board, and brought up to Sydney. Mr Burneil was carried on shore in a eomi-conscious state. Portions of the body of the unfortunate young lady have since beou. recovered. William M'Donald, a Beaman belonging to the barque Midas, lying at Port Chalmers, fell down her hold on Saturday last, and injured his Bpine. Dr Urquhart attended him, and he was brought to Dunedin by tho Harbor Company's steamer Peniuauk, and conveyed to the hospital.
