THE NEVER DESPAIR COMPANY.
TO THE EDITOfi OP THE INDEPENDENT. Sir,— ln your report of the meeting, on Monday evening, of the shareholders in the Never Despair Gold Mining Amalgamated Company, you state that I said the lease of tho land had been signed, and that £40 is owing for onu year'B rent. What I said in reply to tho question asked by Mr Quick, was that Mr Travors had had several interviews, with reference to the lease, with Messrs Brandon and Quick, and from interviews I had had with Mr Mowbray, the trustee, on the same subject, that there would be no difficulty thrown in the way of signing the lease when the Directors of the Company -were prepared to do so ; that up to the present time our company had been looked on in the light of a prospecting one, and further that I had never been in funds to pay the one year's rent of £40 required on execution of the lease. As the error, if left uncontradioted, might mislead the shareholders, you will oblige by giving this place in your journal. Tho regaining portion of your report was verbatim of what took place at the meeting. — I am, &0., J. F. E. Weight. Wellington, Ootober 4. I
