By the arrival of the barque Heversham, from Newcastle, and by the receipt of southern files containing news brought by the Alhauibra, we have the following additional items of Australian intelligence : — Melbourne, Sept. 22. More Tichbourne recollections are evoked. Annie Lockhart, actress, has died in America. Henrietta Allen, for infanticide, has been sentenced to six months. The Jewish New Year observances have the effect of making business dull, A cargo of tea has been auctioned at Id per pound rise. Wheat, 5s 4d ; flour £13 10s to £14. Arrived — Nebraska from Sydney, Rangitoto from Wellington, Golden Sea from Dunedin, Parana from Oamaru, Fawn and Ottawa from Timaru, Magnet and Io from Grey mouth, Fiery Cross, from Jacob's River, Maid of Erin, from Westport. A wool ship has been laid on for New York direct, and several shipments are engaged. The Government intend sending thirty prisoners to Portland to construct a breakwater there. Sydney, September 18. One of the girls of the Industrial School, on Biloela, has been committed for trial on a charge of endeavoring to set fire to her room. An inquest has been held on the body of a male child found in Bridge street, and a verdict of wilful murder against some person or persons unknown has been returned. Bush fires are causing much damage in the Dubbo district. A stack of hay, containing seventy tons, belonging to Mr John Brown, was set fire to afc Cannonbar, and it was partially burned. The act is supposed to be the work of an incendiary. Two fine black whales were caught at Eden. One boat was struck and smashed by a whale, and the men thrown out but not hurt. Eight whales and several grampusses have been secured already this season. Brisbane. The Governor arrived at Maryborough on Wednesday afternoon, and was enthusiastically received by a large concourse of people. About seven hundred children from the schools sang the National Anthem. The Corporation presented an address. The levee was well attended. A successful banquet took place the same evening. The Mayor gave a picnic up the river on the following day. Geo. Paterson, a seamen of the Jason, has been committed for trial on a charge of kidnapping Polynesians. Bathukst. Great apprehensions of another drought are felt. The losses of sheep from the worm disease are very extensive, and it is estimated that over 30,000 have already been destroyed in the district. Adelaide, Sept. 22. More gold has been brought in from the Williamstown diggings. Miss Hinton, from England, is instituting schools on the Kinder, Garten principle. The " Irish Harp" proprietary are threatening Bishop Shielwith an action for the denunciation by the clergy of the paper. They allege the circulation is damaged. Wheat is firm at 4s 7d, and iv good demand. A line of 12,000 bushels sold at that figure. Launceston, Sept. 22. Fresh charges of misdemeanor have been made against Messrs Block, insolvents. One of the firm is supposed to be in New Zealand.
