Oats, 2s 6£d to 2s Bd, good. Malting barley is moderately active fur local use at 3s to 3s Gil. Prime butter for export, 7d to 7-Jd. There is no demand for cheese. Hams and bacon are dull of sale, and no improvement is likely to result owing to the few export orders received. Potatoes £3 15s to £3. Dunedin, Friday. The Waste Land Board has sold 40,000 acres in one block to Clark, of Melbourne. Mr M'Glashan's trustees v. Bird of Christchurch was decided to-day. The jury found for plaintiff for £500. Mr M'Glashan, a passenger by the Claud Hamilton, has charge of a Permissive Bill petition which measures 165 feet in length. A miner named Stoad had a narrow escape at Kyeburn, having been out two days in a snow storm before he was found. The accumulation of tailings in the Molyneux has stopped dredging. Halliday's party at Cheviot this sea- [ son have obtained £5000 worth of gold. Wheat quiet, and millers are not offering more than 5s 3d for best samples. Very little is changing hands. Oats, feeding, 2s 2d; milling, 2s 4d; there are fesv transactions. Barley, no sale. Flour, good trade demand, but no advance on £13 10s to £14. Port Chalmebs, Friday. Sailed — Midnight, Ahuriri, for Napier, via Lyttelton and Wellington; 22nd, at 5 p.m., Gothenburg, for Lyttelton. Alexandra, 20th September. Te Kuiti, 19th September, 6.30 a.m. The friendly natives and Major Mair arrived on Sunday, and were welcomed by 1,500 natives, who were exceedingly friendly. Tawhiao, Manuwhiri, and other notabilities, mingled freely with them. Yesterday was devoted to amusements, to war dances, &o. Rewi has appointed to-day for business. Kawhoa and other tribes are hourly expected here. Kaku, Todd's murderer, and party insulted the friendlies twice on the road up. They were turned out of here by Whitiroa. Manuwhiri will not recognise them in future. Auckland, 19th September. Bray, the sharebroker, who bolted to Hobart Town in the Bella Mary, left defalcations to the amount of £900. A warrant for his arrest wa9 sent by the Hero. A number of Maori magistrates, at Ohinemuri, issued a summons on a settler for stealing a box of prints. They held a mock trial, giving the accused an opportunity for his defence. They found him guilty, and fined him thirty shillings. Captain Williams and Mr Robinson were drowned at Wangarei Heads by a boat accident. The Catholics are petitioning largely against paragraphs 52, 53, and 56 of the Education Bill. They have resolved to build a new Catholic Cathedral in Auckland. An influential Agricultural League has been formed. The Caledonian declared a dividend of £4, and the Thames of 10s. A large meeting has been held in Auckland in favor of the Colonial Permissive Bill. A petition to the Assembly was unanimously adopted. News from Fiji announces further attacks by natives on the labor vessels. Captain Bradley, of the schooner Swallow, has been killed, and several wounded. New Plymouth, Thursday. The Chief Mahau is dead. A meeting was held last night to consider the site of the Post Office. The tone of the speeches was in favor of the market-place site. The native meeting at Pariaka is still going on. The roads and telegraph will be permitted to pass over the land.
