» TO THE EDITOR OF TIIE INDEPENDENT. Siu, — " Educationist," iv bis letter to-day, says that I advojate a purely secular system of education, " except in my own district," &o. If he will refer to my letter, ho will see that my exception extended to " largo towns and thoso exceptional cases where it can be satisfactorily proved that a denominational school has beon doing its work thoroughly well for a specifiod number of yearß." Would " Educationist " limit the application of these words to Wellington ? I must protest against such unfair usage j especially in the discussion of a subject in which all parties ought to do their best to bring about a cordial understanding.—l am, &0., B. W. HAHVB3T. St. Paul's Parsonage, September 21st, 1871.
