. * Melboukne.— The "Argus" of tho 9fch reports:— Busiuess in the import markets has been exceedingly quiet throughout tho day and neither publicly nor privately have any transactions of importance como before us. In breadstuffa there is no improvement to refer to. Flour is simply unsaleable save iv the most trilling bakers' parcels, and for tho supply of pressing wants only j we quote £15 to £15 ss, Wheat is likewise very dull, though moved off with much less difficulty than flour. A shipment of 500 bags Adelaido wheat was cleared off at 6s 2d to 6s 3d in parcels. We also hear of the sale of a very prime parcel of Now Zealand — 1,200 bushels— at a full price, j Oats are in moderate request ; wo learn of the quittance of 2,400 bushols — a good sample — I afc 3s 6d. Sales of maize continue to be effected at up to 4s 3d. Sugurs are moving somewhat slowly ; there does not appear to be much interest takon in fche market at present. Good white crystals have been quitted afc £37 to £37 19s. Under the hammer some 1,600 bags Mauritius rations were gofc rid of fchis forenoon afc £22 10s to £24. In teas, we note the disposal of the damaged portion of the Rachel's and Vision's cargoes of new season's congous afc prices ranging from 12£ dto 2s per lb. net. Candles havo met wifch a better inquiry, but tho sales effected have not beon of much extent ; a few parcels havo found buyers at lid for besfc brands.
