On the election of city councillors today will depend the future of Wellington. The electors can have little difficulty in making their choice. For Councillors Quin aud Carpenter they have it in their power to elect Messrs Bannatyne and Krull, men of superior intelligence and more progressive views. Mr Mills is opposed by the Hon Mr Mantell, who was described in a despatch by General Cameron, not a bad judge, as"anexcitablo individual utterly devoid of common sense." It is scarcely possible to conceive what claim Mr Mantell has to their suffrages. Through his exertions, two municipalities, Wellington and Dunedin, have been deprived of all benefit from most valuable reserves. In both cases the pretext is a miserable law plea, which threatens to stretch out till the crack of doom. The evidence of Dr Johns.on, the Surgeon to the Hospital, v?ry conclusively shows the blighting effect of Mr Mnntell's influence on that institution. To elect him, therefore, to a eeat in the City Council would be one of the greatest mistakes that it is possible to conceive, We are sure the electors will not be so blind to their interest. If our City Council is strengthened by the election of Messrs Mills, Bannatyne, and Krull, its practical usefulness, us well as its prestige, will be inferior to that of no municipal council in tho colony. Need we say more ?
