Neison, 10th— 2 p.m., H.M.S. Basilisk, from Picton. The steamship Phcobe, Captain Worsp, arrived in harbor at 8 p.m. last night from Southern ports. Sho reports leaving Port Chalmers at 5.20 p.m., on tho 7th ; anchored at tho Heads at 6.30 p.m. till 3 a.m. on the following morning, and arrived at Oarnaru at 10 a.m. on the Bth j left again at 3.10 p.m., and arrived at Lyttelton at 8.50 a.m. on the 9th ; left again at 9.20 p.m. same day, and arrived here as above. Experienced fine ■weather with variable winds to Lyttolton ; thence strong head winds and cloudy weather. She leaves for Picton, Nelson, laranaki, and Manukau to-morrow. The three-masted schooner Lady Bird arrived in harbor yesterday from Newcastle , having made the run to the Heads in seven days. She spoke the barque City of Newcastle 120 miles off the Australian coast. She brings eight female immigrants for the Provincial Government, and 280 tons coal, 5 tonß coke, and 100 cases oranges, consigned to Mr Drnnsfield. The brig Chanticleer, from Adelaide, arnvbd at Nelson on Friday, the Ist instant, having left that port on the 19th August, and experienced strong W. and S.W. gales, accompanied with thick squalls and rain, tho ship laboring heavily, the sea running very high throughout until rounding Cape Farewell at 10 a.m. on the 30lh, when the wind lulled to nearly a calm, arriving thero as abovo. Hor cargo consisted of 100 tons of flour for Nelson and 140 for Wellington. She left Nelson for this port on tho 6fch instant, and has been at the Heads since Friday last. The attempt to float tho bavquo Hindoo, which was stranded at tho New Eiver Heads a couple of months ago, is likely to prove successful. The vessel now floats with every tide, and tho purchasers are confident that they will be able to bring her round to Inveroargill jetty under sail ; indeed, everything is so far ready that they only await a favorable opportunity to do so.
