A public meeting was held at Stafford Town on the 2nd inst. to consider the conduct of Mr John White, M.H.R., in connection with the main trunk road. There was a very large attendance, a great deal of discussion, and much conflict of opinion. The following motion was submitted to the meeting : That this meeting has the same confidence in Mr John While as when he was elected. The following amendment was proposed : That Mr John White has neglected his duty in presenting the telegram relative to the road, and has thereby injured himself in the good opinion of his constituents in this district. 54 hands were held up for the amendment, and 38 against it. Bluff, Tuesday. The Rangit>ito has arrived, and sails to-morrow. No sign of the Tararua. Lyttelton, Tuesday. Arrived— Velooidade, barque, from Hobart Town; Wellington, from Wellington.
