NEW ZEALAND STEAM NAVIGATION COMPANY.

A general meeting -of shareholders of the N.Z.S.N. Company was held yesterday afternoon in tho Atheiifcum for the purpose of taking final steps for winding up and dissolving the company. Mr W. Allen.one of the liquidators, occupied tho chair, and explained what was necessary to bo done. Tlio notice had been gazetted on the sth, and according to the nefc, the company might be dissolved within a month from tho notice. He submitted a number of accounts, and explained the financial position of the company, and read a balance sheet statement, whereby it was shown that after meeting every liability there would remain a small balanceof£63 8s 7d. In the course of his remarks ns.to the want of success that had attended the liquidators in working the vessels prior to their sale, he attributed it to the attacks tlnit were unceasingly made in the papers on the vessels, and eventually tho shareholders lost all heart,, and fell off from time to time. Ho also referred to an offer of £20.000 for the vessels, -which they knew to bo all moonshine, and proved to be so in the absence of the parties concerned ; he did not dwell on that portion of the subject, but pointed out that, in order to give an opportunity of accepting tho £20,000 sham, d 518,000 honafide was passed over. Mr Itainio read the report of the liquidators. After some littlo discussion, on the motion of Mr Nathan Beconded by Mr Lewis, the following resolution wus carried :-— " That, on consideration of the account; now presented by the liquidators, it is tho opinion of this meeting that the afflurs of the New Zealand Steam Navigation Company, Limited, have been fairly wound up." It was resolved to allow, the balance, at leaat for the present, to remain in the bands of the liquidators. The meeting then separated.
