The calendar is a light one. Henry Reeves, for larceny, received a sentence of six months. Thomas Arden, who had been previously convicted, received a sentence of two years for larceny. Meetings are being held in all the agricultural districts to petition for a protective duty on grain. Dunkdin, Monday. Culton, M'Glashan, M'lniloo, "and Graham, were nominated to-day for Uoslyn. In the Supreme Court, the cases are mostly of an aggravated character. True bills were found against Rcicheldt, for arson, and M'Leod for libel. Rciciieldt's trial will probably last a wee!'. Mining operations arc suspended up country in consequence of a heavy full of snow. At Mount Ida it is four feet deep. Mr Walker has accepted Christy's terms, and the match is to bo fired at Diinedin on the 20th November, for £150 a-side. Gkeymoutii, Monday. The agitation is still going on for the General Government to take the management of the South west gold-fields, Public meetings were held last week at Half-ounce and Granville's, when the
resolutions lately passod at the Ahaura were unanimously adored. Upwards of 500 signatures were obtained to tho petition in one night. Auckland, Ist September. The schooner Tauranga, from Auckland, has just arrived. There have been severe floods at the Thames. On the 30th there were heavy landslips, which did a good deal of damage, and several persons narrowly escaped. The turning of the first sod of the Kaipara railway, at Riverhead, by tho Deputy-Superintendent, was attended by 200 persons. At the luncheon, speeches were made by Messrs May, Sheelian, Lusk, Mackay, and Williamson. Caledonians, £135 ; Thames, £28.
