THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND.
_$► TO THE EDITOR OF THE INDEPENDENT. BIR, — Magister has been strangely misinformed, 1. Mr. Lewis is not ill from overwork. 2. The Synod Ims never discussed the subjects of which Magister speaks. 3, Tho Church has very little indeed of landed property "to make the most of." 4. Tho Bishop of Wellington has the welfare of the country districts very much at heart, and has labored heartily to raise our diocesan fund, with the hope of being able to supply an acknowledged want. We want more clergymen ; nor are those at present in the diocese over- paid. If Magister can lay bofore the Synod, through me, some method of raising funds that will not be unpopular, the Synod will gladly discuss it. — I am,&c., Archdeacon Stock. Wellington, 4th September, 1871.
