A SUGGESTION.
TO THE EDITOR OS THE INDEPENDENT. Sib, — The body of Mr Donald, who was supposed to be drowned at the Waihenga ferry about a fortnight ago, has not yet been found, notwithstanding the diligent search made and the reward offered. The frequent occurrences of the like before suggests to me the iiea of the necessity of a bell being put up on this side of the river; its cost would not exceed £5 or £6. The present mail carrier informed me that on one occasion he waa shouting from about 6 o'clock till half-past 10, and then ho had to return, as he failed to make the people hear ; and, from what I can learn, it must have been a similar circumstance that Jed to the late accident, for there are strong reasons to warrant our believing Donald would not have attempted to cross the river if not compelled to do so. — I am, &c J.
