Melbourne, 3rd August. Mr Berry, the Treasurer, has brought down his financial statement. The tariff is an ultra-protectionist one, proposing an imposition of twenty per cent, on all goods capable of manufacture in the Colony, including cutlery and machinery; corn, one shilling per cental ; manufactured and ground, Is Gd per cental. He estimates he will raise £280,000 more than Francis' tariff. Many reductions shadowed forth in the proposed tariff are opposed as not according with promises shadowed forth on the hustings as the ministerial policy. An interim supply bill for £130,000 has been passed to pay salaries. Arrived — 10, from Westpor t; Princess Alice, from Lyttelton. Sailed — Alhambra, for Greymouth. Wheat: Adelaide, 7s to 7s 2d ; flour, TOs ; Now Zealand barley, 3s Id ; wheat, os Gd ; oats, 3s 3d to 3s (i^d. Tookey's are depressed to £17 10s. Sydney, 2nd August. A banquet has been given to the released feniacs; there were ISO present A public meeting will be held shortly to urge the Government to subsidise Hall's line of steamers. A public testimonial is being got up in favor of Captain Walker. Sugar improved £1 per ton. Tlio Adelaide wheat market is quiet ; us to 7s is demanded ; 53 to 0s is offering. Mr Burs tall has again drawn the attention of the Government to the Cape Uouto for a mail service ; Mr Dully stated that Mr Verdon had advised him of a favorable oiler made in England to run vessels, and that the whole matter will bo laid before Parliament Mr. Bony gave his financial speech : — Apparel, boots, shoes, woodware, brushware, saddlery, musical instruments, umbrellas, manufactured iron, and other metal, stone and marble, 20 per cent ; silks, manufactured silk, hosiery, oils, matting, matches, fancy goods, ehinaware, glass, drugs, cordials, woolen piece goods, mixed wool, cotton, leather, hardware, sheet lead and piping, 10 per cent ad valorem. Spirits, per gallon, 10s ; ales and porter, in wood and bottle, 9d ger gallon ; tea and coffee, 3d per 1b; rice, 35s per cental; tobacco, manufactured, Is per lb; cigars, ss ;
grain, Is ; prepared or ground, Is 6d per cental ; potatoes, 10s per ton ; acids, 5s per cwt ; salt, 23s per ton ; wine, 3s per gallon : vinegar, 6d per gallon ; sugar; and molasses, 3s per cwt ; carriages, 20s per cent ad valorem. Exemptions-— Whale oil, in Victorian bottoms, and railway iron. The financial statement was made, and after adjournment, Messrs Wood 3 and Longmore replied. The latter stated that to raise the enbankment and to construct bridges on the second section of the Beech worth railway to avoid the flood levels, would cost £90,000. Mr Verdon's despatch states that he is corresponding with the Imperial authorities on the intended transportation of Communists to New Caledonia. The Bank of Victoria report adopting a dividend of 19 per cent, was declared, and £25,000 is carried to the reserve fund.
