CO., BETJIEB'S AGKBNTS.} Christch.urch, Saturday, In committee of the whole Honse, Mr Coster, Manager of the Bank of New Zealand, last night made what is generally considered to have been an able aad conclusive reply to the Superintendent's statement regarding the Bank's claims. On the motion of the Hon John Hall, the matter was then referred to a select committee which meets on Monday. There was a long debate regarding the Provincial Secretary's resolutions on Mr Gisborne's circular, regarding reserves along the railway lines. Ultimately the resolutions were withdrawn, except one in favor of a reserve of 50,000 acres, which was carried. Lyttelton, Saturday. Mr Edward Lewis, merchant, met his creditors today. His liabilities are £6,253, and the assets are slated to be £2,037. The deficiency is accounted for by the dullness of trade, depreciation of property, losses, £300 expended in law expenses and farming. The insolvent proposes a deed of assignment or the Bankruptcy Court A committee has been appointed to examine the books and is to report on Monday. Greymouth, Saturday. News has just arrived that, during the late flood in the Grey River, the Rev. Father Columb was drowned, while swimming his horse across the Nelson creek, being at the time engaged on pastoral duty. The horse with Father Columb's valise was found to-day, but nothing has been seen of the reverend gentleman's body. Port Chalmers, Saturday. Arrived — Caledonia, schooner, from Pelorus Sound. 30th— -Beautiful Star, s.s., from Lyttelton. The Roslyn Castle sails for London to-morrow. It is blowing a stiff nor'easter.
