The c s. Wellington, Captain Kennedy, left Port Chalmers on Tuesday evening last for Oamaru, and was to load grain for Northern ports yesterday. The e.s. Taranaki, Captain Wheeler, ,s hourly expected at Nelson, with the West Coast portion of the English mail. A large black whale, estimated to yield about six or seven tuns of oil, is reported to have been captured by Ellison's whaling party at Waikouaiti. The whale, which is a female or cow whale, was attended with its calf. This was also killed, hut sank about a tmle from the shore shortly after its capture, with Hie harpoon and line attached. As the weather continues fine, hopea are entertained of its reoovory. Meanwhile the party is said to be busily engaged in extracting the oil from the blubber at the try works at Waikouaiti. Mr C. Bradshaw's party also sighted and gave chase to whelesfand if the weather continues fine, other captures may bo shortly expected. — " Dunedin Evening Star." The ship Helenslee arrived in Lyttelton harbor last Saturday afternoon, from Port Chalmers. The vessel is commanded by Captain W. S. Cleary, late of the brig Princess Alice.
