POLICE COURT.
Tuesday, July 19. (Before J. C. Crawford, Esq., R.M.) ASSAULT. W. M'Donald, chief officer on board the barquo Tell, was charged with assaulting J. Hoffman, the steward of the vessel. There were no witnesses on either side, the evidence given being just as the parties liked to shape it. Tho evidence of the assault was very weak, . and ultimately tho defendant was dismissed with a caution. CIVIL CASE. Hurdio v Rowe— Claim, £6 2s 6d. The adjourned hearing of this case was proceeded with, and several witnesses on both sides were examined. Judgment for amount and coat 3 was given. LICENSING MEETING. (Before Captain Shurpe, J. Woodward, W. Dorset, and G. Lewis, J.P.s) The following applications for transfer of licenses were granted : — For the Victoria Hotel, Abel Smith street, . from R. Somerville to Hugh Bradfoot. For the Metropolitan Hotel, Molesworlb street, from T. Urwin to James Osgood. Imperial (late Express) Hotel, Cuba street, from J. Chisholm to Robert Somerville. Nelson Hotel, Larabton Quay (name changed to Auld Scotland), from T. Wilson to Thomas Urwiu. An application by Mr George Thomas for the transfer of the license for the Exchange Hotel from L. Reisterer to himself, was ad' journcd to Tuesday next, at the applicant's wish. An application from Annie Stratford for the transfer of the license of tho Waterloo Hotel, Kaiwarra, from W, Donald to herself, was also adjourned to Tuesday next, in consequence of the non-attendance of the particSt
