TnE Fi-ENCii Wae Indkunitv. — It is stated that Baron Rothschild has given an opinion that France will bo able to pay up the whole five milliards of francs in the courso of the year. M. Cremieux has addressed a letter to M. Grovcy, the President of the National Assembly, in which the ex-Minister proposes that France should promptly subscribe tho war indemnity of five milliards, in order to rid herself of tho Prussians. He says — " Let each of us consider the state of liis fortune, and let us make an advance to our country, which will be repaid over a long course of years." M. Cremieux himself oilers 100,000 francs for this purposo. Extended Commeucial Relations .ran the Colonies. — H.N. M.S. Curagcoa arrived at Queenscliff on Juno 28. This vessel has beon despatched by tho Dutch Government, from Javu, to take on board an oxpodition to visit tbo harbor and settlements on the weat, east, and north coasts of Ausirulia and the Island of New Guinea, with a view of promoting tho commercial relations between these colonies and tho Netherlands Indian possessions ; and also to report upon the commercial re-sources of the latter island. Tho expedition will bo under the command of Mr Ploos Van Amstel, the Consul- General of tho Netherlands. Jews in Russia.— Tho Jewish population of tho Russiun Empire consists of 2,158,019 souls. Of this number 752,467 are Poles, The new German Empire comprises a Jewish population estimated at 1,200,000.
