SIR, — I was highly pleased, on reading the report you gave a few days since concerning progress made by the Wellington Co-opera-tive Society, to find that they are already paying expenses, when I recollect that the famed Rochdulo Society was two years struggling to reach that point. It must, I think, bo very encouraging to all concerned to find the Wellington Society has succeaded in doing this in the first year of its existence. Co- operative Societies have not, as a rule, been successful in the colonies, and New Zealand has proved no exception to the rule. I could count a score of them which have \joen established in this colony, and failed — chiefly through a lack of support. It ia, therefore, very oreditable to the people of Wellingtou that they have so warmly seconded the efforts made by a few earnest men, and one which is calculated to benefit the whole of the community. I fully concurred in your remarks about their not having kept themselves sufficiently before the publio through the medium of your advertising columns, and I feel confident that they will receive a material addition to their numbers through having at last cfono so. It reallj has been a question on Thorndon Flat as to whether the Society had an existence or not. Apologising for trespassing ! on your voluablo space. — I am, &c, X.Y.Z,
