The share market is more steady : — Caledonians are selling at £180; Thames, £30 ; Tookeys, £38 ; Otago, £3 os and firm ; Belfasts, £7 ss; Kelly's, £3; Poverty and Charleston, £9 10s; Junction, £3 ; Cures, £2 ; Nonpareils, £4 ss. During the week 7150 ounces have been received from the Thames. The Tokatea crushing of 250 tons realised 2100 ounces. A dividend will be paid on Thursday. The Una will also pay a dividend on Thursday. The Caledonian and Thames will pay another dividend on next Wednesday. A new company called the Albion has been formed, and embraces the Poverty and Charleston and Kelly's and Belfast, adjoining the Caledonian. Several merchants contemplate forming a whaling company, and the barque Albion is being fitted out. Earl and Countess Belmore arrived by the Hero, and are guests of the Governor. The Luna will leave about the 9th for Wellington, with the Governor's furniture. The Great World Circus is performing to crowded houses. Arrived. — Merlin and Sea Gull, from Fijis ; Hero, from Sydney, in four and a-half days ; Star of the South, from Napier. Christchuech, Friday. Wheat, 5s 6d to 5s 9d ; seed samples, 6s 6d to 7s. Flour, £15. Oats, 2s 3d to 2s Gd. Butter, o|d to 6|d. Cheese, 4d to 4|d. Hams and bacon for shipi ment, B£d to 9d. Dunedin, Friday. Thu University Social Gathering was attended by more than nine hundred persons. Judge Chapman and Professor Sale were the principal speakers. The latter strongly advocated the admission of female students to the evening classes, and nearly sixty have already entered. There was a keen competition for the Knox Church University scholarship. Ferguson, of Tokomairiro, gained it. The Nevada takes fifteen passengers to San Francisco, including the Bishop of Dunedin, who was presented with a valedictory address
