A LUNATIC AT LARGE.
[to the editor of the independent.] Sic, — A man named William Blake, formerly a resident of this district, but for some time past an inmate of tho lunatic asylum at Karori, passed through this place yesterday, playing some unknown tuno, alternately crying and laughing, his instrument being a piece of foolscap paper rolled up like a flute. I presume he is turned out as cured of his malady, instead of being taken care of until fit for work. The poor idiot has neither relations nor friends, and is thrown on the world helpless. How is he to live ? — probably he may endanger the life of some one. Where will he sleep ?— perhaps he will crawl into some outbuilding, and tho result will probably be a coat to the insurance company. — I am, &c, S. G. Featherston, sth July, 1871.
