STEAM MAIL SERVICE. npENDERS will be received at the General X Post-office, Wellington, till the 20fch June proximo, for the performance of the undermentioned Steam Mail Services : — 1. Between the Manukau and Picton, calling at Taranaki and Nelson, and back to the Manukau by the suine route, once every four weeks. 2. Between Nelson and Hokitika, calling at Weatport and Greymoutb, and back to Nelson by the samo route, once every four weeks. Tho names, tonnage, and horse-power of the vessels proposed to be employed to bo stated, and the vessels to bo approved by the Post-master-General, and to be surveyed by some person appointed by him whenever ho may consider it necessary. A propor and secure room to be provided for tho Mails, and all Mails to be landed and shipped by and at the expense of tho contractor. Tho days and hours of arrival and departure at and from the various ports to bo fixed by the Postmaßter-Genoral, who shall also have the power of detaining the vessels, it necessary, for forty-eight hourß after the due dato of the San Francisco Mails at Auckland and Nelson, without charge ; for any other detention the rate of demurrage per diem to bo stated. Service No. 1 to commence at the Manukau on the arrival of the Mail Steamer Nevada at Auckland about the end of June proximo; and Service No. 2 to commence at Nelson on tho arrival of the steamer performing Service No. 1. Tho services to be determined by either party giving two months' notice in writing to the other. Tho lowest or any tender not necessarily accepted. G. ELIOTT ELIOTT, Secretary.
