Wanganui : 27th— Early, Go-a-Head, from Manawatu.
It will be remembered thafc the p.s. Nevada and the a.a. Wellington left our harbor the Bame afternoon, both bound for Auckland, and to touch afc Napiei'. Borne littlo interest waa evinced as to which of the ateamera would reach Auckland first. In many minds there was not a doubt bufc that our American frieud would have the pleasure of seeing the little coastal steamer into Auckland harbor some hours after she herself had como to an anchor. But it was not so, the s.a. Wellington arrived first by 40 minutes. The following are the particulars of tho Wellington's time, &c. :— Left this harbor afc 2.45 p.m. on the 17th insfcanb ; arrived off Napier the following day ab 7.40 a.m, waking the rapid run of 210 •mileß in little less than 16 hours (full two houra lesa than the Nevada'a passage) • remained at anchor to discharge cargo, &c, for nearly five hours, and started for Auckland at 30 minutes past noon, arriving on tho 20fch inatant at 6 a.m. The Nevada had a good three miles start ahead of the Wellington on leaving Napier, and anchored in Auckland -iO minutes after her. This beat ia not bo be attributed to the use of canvas by the Wellington, aa in thiß respect she waa under a disadvantage by having carried away her topsail yard when hoisting ifc up on leaving Napier, and was debarred tho uso of the top sail altogether. The Nevada, however, considered it desirable on leaving Nnpier to bend her canvas, and act it for the first fcime on the coaafc. We are glad fco notico thafc the a.B. Wellington, notwithstanding her long lay up, has nofc lost any of her old Bpeed. Even one of the crew of the Yankee " gueased alio must he a fast boat," looking at her in Auckland harbor after arrival. A favorite ateamer the Wellington has been hitherto, and a favorite she bidß fair to continue under her new proprietory, the N.Z.S.S. Company. The' N.Z.S.S. Co.'a Wellington, Captain Kennedy, arrived in this harbor from Napier and Auckland ycßterday morning at 11 o'olock. She left Auckland on the 25th at 2.45 p.m. • had fine weather to tho East Cape, thence to Hawke's Bay fresh breeze from S.W., accompanied wifch a heavy rolling sea ; anchored off Napier Spit on the 27th afc 10 10 a.m. ; calm and very fine weather ; aailed again at 2.15 p.m. ; light S.W. winda all nighfc, after daylight, on approaching Wellington, imefc with a freshning breeze from N.W., and anchored in this harbor aa above. We are indebted to Mr Wheeler, puraer, for files. The s.b. Rangatira, Captain Renner, left Porfc Chalmers at 4.30 p.m. on the 24th • arrived at Timaru at 9 a.m. on the 25th ; left afc 5 p.m. same day j arrived at Lyttelton at 8 a.m. on the 26th ; left afc 6 p.m. same day ; arrived in this harbor afc 8.50 p.m. on the 27th ; boisterous weather throughout tho poesage.
