The s.b. Waaganui, Captain Linklater, arrived in thia harbor afc 10.30 p.m. last night, after a passage of 12 hours from Wanganui. Go-a-Head off Cape Tera•witti at 7 p.m. Captain Linklater reports that the red light at the wharf was out when he came into port, and that ho had some difficulty in taking up his berth, in consequence of the number of vessels alongside, and there being no distinguishing light. We notice that the wharf ie now lighted with gas, which is a very great improvement ; but it makes it all the more necessary that the red light should be attended to, for the convenience of shipping. A wharf-beeper might be engaged with advantage, or a policeman told off for the service. The wharf is acknowledged to be the best and most convenient in New Zealand, and it is desirable to increase its usefulness if we can. The "New Zealand Herald," 16th May, Bays : — " H.M. p.e. Virago, Captain Sandys, arrived in harbor yesterday from Wellington, having left that port on the sth inst. The Virago will remain here a few days before proceeding to Sydney. Prom thence she will go direct to England." The Caduceus will be the bearer of the largest cargo that has left thia port for many months. She is rapidly filling up, and will be a full ship about Tuesday or Wednesday next, having been in port only two months. It is but seldom we have a vessel of 1000 tons register loading at our wharf, and it is highly creditable to the port that she has been filled up with such celerity, and shows that our articles of export must have increased to a conaiderable extent. We understand that there is nearly sufficient cargo stored and coming forward during the next month fco load another ship of the same tonnage, and that it is probable a ship will be sent up from the South to fill up here. The Alexandrina, daily expected, ■will also load for London, and the Mary Ruseell Mitford has commenced to stow away a cargo for New York. — " New Zealand Herald."
