TO THE EDITOR OF THE INDEPENDENT. SIE. — A letter from your " own correspondent" in your issue of to-day, refers to a subject upon which the writer is evidently mistaken or misinformed. He apparently thinks the matters connected with the Featherston testimonial and address havo been unsuccessful, because he is under the impression that no trouble has been taken to bring either before the public of his district. The facts are that the committee took as much trouble and care to bring the matter under the notice of residents in the Wairarapa as it was possible to do without instituting a personal eanvass of the district. Por the information of your " own correspondent," and otherß, I may state that three gentlemen resident in Foatherston, five in Greytown, one in Carterton, and six in Ma3terton, were communicated with, and requested to use " their best endeavors to obtain subecriptions to the testimonial, and to give all within their reach. an opportunity of recording their appreciation of Dr. Featherston." As the committee have not ceased their endeavors, but are still willing to receive signatures to the address and testimonial, may I suggest to your "own correspondent" that there is yet time to append his and other names to the one, and to swell the amount for the other, by any sum he may remit to the Honorary Treasurer, Mr George Hunter. —I am, &C, A. F. Halcombe, Hon. Secretary to the Featherston Testimonial Committee. Wellington, 18th May, 1871.
