[PEE GEEVILLE'* TEL. CO., BEUTER'S AGENTS.] Auckland, 15th May. An extensive fire occurred on Sunday morning in Pitt street, and top of Hobson and Grey streets. Ten dwelling houses totally destroyed. Estimated loss over £4000. The New Zealand Insurance Company's loss is £1800 ; Royal, £1300 ; Imperial, £200. Te Hira has placed the matter of the Tauranga mail service in Mr Mackay's hands to open or shut as he pleases ; also the question of opening up the country. Heavy floods occurred at the Thames on the 12th. The creeks rose considerably, flooding the lower parts of the township. Eliza Knox threw herself into the river from the whtarf yesterday and was drowned. The Central Italy Company's ground has been jumped in consequence of an informality in their lease. Great indignation is expressed at the conduct of the jumpers, Messrs Copeland, Casey, and Ander- [ son were yesterday elected a new Harbor Board. The Caledonian Company pay another dividend of £10 per share to-day. The Thames pays 80s to-morrow. The ship Caduceus sails for London on Saturday with 50 passengers, 15,000 ounces of gold, and a large cargo. Arrived — May 12th, Queen, from Lyttelton ; 14, Onehunga, schooner, from Oaraaru, after a passage of twentyeight days ; 15th, Virago, from Wellington ; Star of the South from Napier. "Wasganui, Thursday. Heavy floods have washed away the approach of the Turakina bridge. All traffic is stopped. i A man named Morris was drowned while crossing the Kai Iwi stream. A testimonial was presented last night to U. W. Wood, Esq., Native Magistrate. The Bazaar in aid of the English Church yesterday and to day was a great success. Dunedin, Thursday. The Agnes Muir sailed for London, with six passengers, 15,000 ounces of gold, and a large cargo. Geo. Honeymoon was killed by falling from his horse. Beach workings at Port Molyneux are turning out well. One party obtained 200 ounces of gold in three weeks. Flour advanced 20s-— now selling at £14 ; milling wheat, 5s 3d ; oats, 28 3d to 2s sd.
