OAMAETT.— The " Times" of May 12th reports :— Quotations for grain are as follow : — Wheat, best, 4s 3d to 4s 4d ; oats, 2s to 2s 2d ; barley, according to quality, 2s to 3s. Sellers of wheat are holding for higher rates, but buyers decline to advance, as the result of rocent exportation to Melbourne and Auckland allows not only no profit, but an actual loss to the exporter, the nett proceeds amounting only to 4s per bushel. Flour has not followed the advance of the wheat market, and remains at £12 10a to £13. Southland. — Wholesale Prices : — Butter, fresh, Is perlb; butter, potted (Provincial), 9d ; eggs, Is 9d per doz ; cheeso (colonial), 6d to 9d per lb j do (provincial), 5d to 8d ; hams none ; do (provincial), 9d per lb ; potatoes, £3 to £3 '10s per ton ; onions, £16 to £20 per ton ; oats, 2s 3d to 2s 6d per bshl ; Vfheat, 4s to 4s 6d ; barley, 33 do ; flour (town made), £13 to £14 ; dd (Otago), £14 per ton ; do (Adelaide), £17 10a per ton ; oatmeal (provincial), £20; bacon (provincial), 7d to Bd. Hokitika.— The "West Coast Times" of May 10 reports :— The market continues firm, particularly so in all kinds of breadstuffs. Hart's or Duffield's flour is held for £19 10s to £20, with a decided inclination on the part of the importers to exact higher sates, well ino'wing that it cannot be replaced for the same money. Tho Melbourne advices to hand, as well as tho3o received from England by the San Francisco mail, justify the owners and holders of that class of article to exact not an exhorbitant, but a payable price for their stocks, and it is not at all improbable that higher rates "will be demanded in a few days. The principal portion of fche stock of Hart's which has been imported by recent arrivals, has como to one firm who can and will hold for a remunerative price. Woods' Canterbury silk dressed is saleable at £16 10s. Mowat'a Kakanui flour realises the same price, and wo believe in many instances is preferred by the bakers. Altogether the stock of flour, whether provincial or otherwise, is not of any great extent, and, in fact, a con» eiderable quantity by the recent arrivals has been placed already. Oats and bran, of which there has been some slight additions to tho stocks, have not altered in price. Wo quote prime samples of oats at from 3s 7d to 3s 9d ; bran at last quotations.
