In tho event of an escape of gas in a room, extinguish all the lights, then endeavor by smell to find ouc its whereabouts. Accidents have sometimes occurred from the use of water slide pendants — when the seal lias not been sufficient, when they hare been pulled too low, or from evaporation of the water. To prevent evaporation, a tea-spoon-ful of good salad oil should bo added after the outer tube hus been filled with water. Such fittings should be pushed up when not in use. When practicable, the main cock attached to tho service pipe should always bo turned off during tho night, thus excluding the gas from the premises, but, before DOING THIS, tho whole of the burner cockß should be turned off.
