DUNEDIN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
At the la3fc quarterly meeting of this body, among the subjects dealt with wero "bills of sale" and the "cental system." The following motion, put by Mr Waicott, was carried nem. con. : — " That a petition be presented to tho House of Representatives asking for such a revision and amendment of the law affecting bills of sale as will permit of the earliest possible publicity being given to bills of sale having been granted ; and the public to make a general search of the records on payment of a single fare." It appeared to be the opinion of the members who spoke that it would be useless for the Chamber to attempt the introduction of the cental system into tho province at present, especially as it had failed in Melbourne : aud it was resolved to take no steps in the matter. The Chairman (Mr E. B. Cargill) pointed out tho necessity of every facility being offered to this colony to compete with New South Wales and Victoria in the South Sea Island trade, and ultimately the following resolution was passed : — " That a committee be appointed to consider the Customs Regulation Act and its tariff, with a view of suggesting any amendments that may appear to be necessary therein ; 6uch committee to consist of Messrs Graham, Waicott, Sise, and H. M'Neill."— " Otago Times."
