STORM ON THE COAST OF ENGLAND.
[From the London Gxojiu, Feb. 11.] A rapid fall in the barometer yesterday was succeeded by a hcauy gulo on various portions of the const, the east and north-east especially having been heavily visited by tho storm. At South Shields last night there was a severe gale from the southeast. Tho Bea on the bar of the Tyne arid along the const rose to a great height. Towards night the wind veered round more to the east. Six vessels went ashore at the entrance of tho harbor. Tho Jnbez, of Whitby, which got on the rocks, could not bo approached by the lifeboat ; and her crew, consisting of aix, were left struggling in the Bca when ehe went to pieces. Two of them who were lashed together succeeded in getting ashore, but the other four were drowned in tho prcseneo of thousands of spcclutMlorß Late at night a perfect hurricane was blowing All day yesterday a destructive gale, accompanied with snow and rain, prevailed at Grimsby. A largo number of vessels are said to have pone ushoro. Accounts from Plymouth and FahnouUi Blato that all vessels at anchor there are in safety, nothwitbslauding the strong gole that has been blowing from tho northwest ; out from Padsow and other ports on the Eristol Channel coast the sea is stated to be so terrific that no ship cannot approuch the coast without dunger. Uartlepool Eay at daylight was one mass of furiously breaking wuves, which doshed over the pices «nd on rocks lileo tho roar of artillery. The life bouts were soon luunchod and the tugs placed under etemn to be ready in case of necessity. Two brigs were driven by the eca on to Middleton beach, among huge breakers,
with a heavy sea. It seemed cortained they would soon become wrecks. Very quickly the lifeboats put off to rescuo the crew. After encountcriiic great peril, tho lifeboat took oil 1 the eight men in safety. When darkness act i;i, r>oth vessels were radly breaking up, the sea sea making a clear breach over them Elovon vessels are reported ashore between Grimsby and Donna Nook. Among ?hem is a large steamer. The sea at Filey was terrific. The schooner Mary, of North Shields, Capt. Moore, coal luden, for Masden, run ashore in the afternoon. Tho vosseli was out of roach of the rocket apparatus, which was fired by the coast guard, but the crew of four men were most gallantly saved by the lifeboat.
