Tiik adjourned meeting of Mr F ; tz- I herbcri's Committee was held lasfc evening in the Athenaeum. His Worship the Mayor presided. Various sub-com-mittees were appointed. Mr Dransfield was elected hon. treasurer, and Mr J. H. Wallace hon. secretary. The various sub-committees report progress at a general meeting to be held this afternoon at five o'clock in Mr Wallace's rooms, when final arrangements will be made for to-morrow. All present seemed enthusiastic in the cause, and the only fear expressed was that many would from a foolish security not take the trouble to vote. A telegram was read from Wanganui, and private letters spoken of, all tending to show that Mr Finnimore was making the most active exertions, and that some energetic and united action was imperatively required in Wellington to counteract them. The meeting pledged themselves individually to do their utmost, and we trust they will us faithfully redeem this pledge as they were ready to give it. . Doubtless, to-day will see more excitement in the matter, as, in the short interval left for operations much good may yet be done.
