The past year baa been marked by a continuous commercial depression, which has, nc doubt, materially influenced that class of the community for whose benefit the Wellington Savings Bank was established, and it would excite little surprise, therefore, if, in presenting their annual report, the Committee wero unable to mark. a continuance of the Buccese which it has hitherto been their gratification to record. The Committee have, however, the pleasure to state that notwithstanding the retarding circumstances above mentioned the Bank's progress has continued unchecked. The deposits on 31st December, 1870, amounted to £8910 16s 10; at the same period in 1869 £8551 16s 7d, showing an increase of £359 Os 3d. Tho number of. current accounts is 507, being an increose of 53, and The accumulated profit of the Bank is now £1330 ISs 10d, exhibiting a net profit during ( the year of £73 14s Bd, being the largest addition made to the funde during any one year. These statistics indicate not only a prudent management but an appreciation by the community of the advantages offored by the institution, and your Committee feel justified in congratulating the managers upon tho result.
