We aro happy to see that Captain Pearee's gift, has been the incana of accelerating tho pulee of the volunteering movement; in Wellington — ifc certainly was in want of a stimulus for a long time, and beat with an unhealthy sluggishness. Now that a responsive spirit has been awakenend amongst the business people, ami those whom nge, civic or other duties, may preclude from uny actual participntion, so fur as shouldering tho rifle, and paying matutinal visits to tho Butts, or the more- staid evening drill, it only romains for tho volunteers themeoves to acquit themselves in such a way as to show that that they deserve to arouse this reciprocal spirit among their fellow townsmen, by doing all in their power to make the marksmen of Wellington force thomselvos into the foremoat position, so long occupied by tho men of Ota^o ; and we may add that wo think there is now some promise of ic. Amongst the contributions that wo have alluded to iv
