Xtttelton, 16th : 12.30 p.m., Lord Ashley, from Wellington. The e.s. Wanganui, Captain Linklater, armed in harbor at 1.15 yesterday afternoon. She left Nelson at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, and experienced thick fog and heavy rain ; had to alow the engines for the greater part of the night ; there was a high wind, and it shifted several times. A writer in the Thames " Evening Post" thus satirises the practice, which has become so prevalent of late, of " writing up" every little cockle boat that conies into port: — ** Arrivals. — The Betsy Jane has arrived from Tofcangamutu. Captain Jones Brown, her amiable and accomplished commander, reports a mutiny amongst the crew, whilst off the Monataira Creek. The crew refused to cook the captain's dinner. The crew have since received tbeir discharge. The Betsy Jane is a magnificent specimen of naval architecture, and the arrival of bo splendid a vessel -in our harbor is an episode of no mean importance. She is built upon what is now known as the coalskuttle principle ; she is supposed to travel faster astern than any vessel of her <2lass ; and ample provision for the comfort of the passengers in the way of baths has been made by the sieve system, on which her hold has been constructed." We (" Telegraph," 13th inst.) regret to inform our readers that the e.s. Napier, Captain Bendall, in entering the Wairoa River, on Thursday laet, waa struck by a sea, when just over the bar, which carried her on to the Southern Spit. The cargo has all been landed, and, when the mailman left, the steamer was high and dry ; fortunately there are no rocks about where she is, only a loose, shingly bottom. Captain Bendall anticipates getting her off to-day, and we trust ho will be successful in his attempt.
